readings and competitions, oh my

Right, upcoming submissions and readings... This is mainly so I can keep track of the dates and selections myself. More than likely I may end up sending something completely new to at least some of these, but I'd like to have some options ready in case I don't manage to write anything new over the next couple of weeks.

So, tentative selections... thoughts and suggestions are more than welcome, should you feel so inclined.

Two poems to the Best of Manchester Poets Anthology, deadline 30th of June

Lol, these are kind of Manchester themed in a way and while it isn't a requirement the storytelling element feels like a good fit.

ain't no love in here, girl

Azalea Avenue
(this needs some fixing, I'm not completely happy with it at the moment)

Two poems to read at
Poetica Knitting Event on 6th of July

Fairly settled on these as they both read quite well.

Kaleidos

in babylon they laugh with broken teeth

There is a part of me that wants to read you were wrong first just for the reactions...

Three poems to the Mslexia competition, deadline 18th of July

These, I feel, are the best I have to offer at the moment. I'm a little worried that they are stylistically too similar and I should be showing more range...??

Different Ghosts

Miranda

Such Mercy

Three poems to the Poetica Anthology, deadline 20th of July

First one is set, because the group liked the format and typeset almost as much as they liked the poem itself (it was justified with wide margins on the print out). The others I'm dithering on.

Bone Sparrow

Ensnared

On Walking Home At Night (needs some tidying up I think)

OR something shorter like i am a shark or and your heart too

Decisions, decisions...

(Yes, this post is open as I said such posts would be. Poems are flocked though so if you want access to them, please drop me a comment somewhere)

Christ you are going to pwn me at the mslexia thing.

Or, you know, VICE VERSA.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] jenni_the_odd is entering as well, any combination of us in first, second, and third would be PERFECT.

But someone who sucks will probably win. :(

Well clearly the judges should recognise all our brilliance and the only discussion should be the heated debate how a three-way tie for the first spot, while unprecedented, is entirely justified in this case.

and they will give us joint editorship of the magazine etc. :D

[identity profile] boneverse.livejournal.com 2011-06-19 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh fuck no, who would want to actually edit a poetry magazine?? All yours, I'll just take the money... :D

[identity profile] teithiwr.livejournal.com 2011-06-19 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Darn, I REALLY want a poetry + knitting event!!!

Also, you are brave and super active for doing all these poetry things. ♥ I feel like I've fallen off the poetry wagon again, sigh. So many poems I could edit and send off, but I never get my lazy arse round to doing it. So GO YOU!

[identity profile] boneverse.livejournal.com 2011-06-19 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently it was popular the first time they ran it a couple of years ago. I'm there just to read and listen :D

Thank you. I'm trying, and probably also using this as escapism from thesis-related stress...

You can't force it though, hun. When you feel like writing or editing, then you do it. <3

[identity profile] teithiwr.livejournal.com 2011-06-20 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you'll have to tell me all about it! :)

Poetry is great escapism. <3 And it looks like you've got a lot of stuff planned out pretty well, so yay!

Yeah, I know I shouldn't really stress out about not writing/doing writerly things. It's silly, because I do know that when I get the real writing itch, there's nothing can stop me from squeezing in time to write! And yet, Tei feels anxious about not writing. SILLY, like I said.

[identity profile] boneverse.livejournal.com 2011-06-20 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
There will definitely be a post about the event :)

You could try writing a poem about writing anxiety? And stop being silly, make yourself some tea and just relax...

[identity profile] teithiwr.livejournal.com 2011-06-20 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay!

Ha, yeah, that's an idea. Mmh. The making tea part is easy, the relaxing, not so much. Maybe after my exam's over, next week. :P

I hope you're having a relaxing time of it!

I am so happy you're doing these competitions and showing people your stuff because it's wonderful. And you deserve to know how good you are. ♥

My only one, unimportant suggestion is that you put On Walking Home At Night forward for the Manchester Poets Anthology, because it's the first one I thought of when I read you were entering that. It's a poem that has really stuck in my mind and stands out amongst your (all brilliant) pieces, I think.

[identity profile] boneverse.livejournal.com 2011-06-19 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, thank you so much darling, that's really wonderful of you to say.

And thank you for the suggestion as well, it's a good one. I know I wanted to include 'On Walking Home At Night' somewhere, but wasn't sure where. You're right, it might be a good fit for the Manchester anthology... :)

MANCHESTER ANTHOLOGY

Just reminding you to enter the anthology tomorrow.
